Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a legal advocate & a lawyer?

While both services offer legal support and representation for their clients there are differences:

1) Legal advocates are not lawyers but they do offer advice, support and representation in the mediation processes and the Court processes just not in the Court room itself.

2) Legal advocates are more cost effective then lawyers and can help you with the general Court admission processes, general letters, organising of Court related documents, knowledge of legal document formats, advocacy and support in which Lawyers will cost a lot more. Therefore, we can work complimentary to one another to achieve the desired goals but also to save on costs.

3) Legal advocates have a broader range of skill sets as specialise in providing general support, advocacy, goal setting and so, in which Lawyers do not cover. We offer emotional support, referrals to other services, or assitance with navigating government agencies and other organisations.

4) Legal advocates are more flexible then lawyers as can chat or meet, or work, outside of regular business hours, offering more ongoing support over the phone or online. And without communications with a middle man.

5) Legal advocates have more specialised expertise as lawyers may have an understanding of the legalities of issues such as defamation, harrassement and the privacy act, but as for legal advocates, we have a deeper understanding on the specific issues faced such as how to stop this with community support services available, supporting or referring people to emotional or psychological support services or outside organisations that may help.

6) Legal advocates are people focused, empathetic and passionate about helping others as have a background in Community Support as opposed to knowledge and a passion in legislation, the judicial system, politics and the like.
